Our Services

What do we do?
At heritage we provide a comprehensive range of architectural design services. From initial sketches through the Planning process to Building Regulations and working drawings for construction.

We use professional 2D and 3D CAD software to enable us to produce high quality drawings and visualisations of our designs which are accompanyed by the relevant technical specifications.

We also work with other local construction industry professionals and quality local builders to deliver projects to the highest standards.

As part of our service we will liaise with our professional partners and other statutory bodies e.g. the Local Authority Planning Dept and Building Control on your behalf.

Most projects undertaken are within the residential sector e.g. one-off bespoke houses for private clients but we also work with smaller builders/developers on multi-unit developments.

Some larger projects may include a conversion or change of use from industrial/commercial to residential or a mixed-use development scheme.

What makes Good Design?
The secret of a beautiful and practical home is excellent design and a perfect balance of form and function. By combining fundamental architectural design principles with modern technology and innovative products & construction techniques the results can be truly amazing even on a modest budget. A well designed building or living space should be:

- Aesthetically pleasing with a welcoming and relaxing feel. Light, and in particular natural daylight, plays an extremely important part in making a space feel inviting.

- Practical, functional and user friendly especially for everyday spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms.

- Harmonious with its surroundings taking into account the local style or vernacular and other features such as the adjacent buildings, landscape and specific geographical location.

- Constructed where possible from sustainable or ecologically sound materials.

Architectural Styles
At Heritage we are passionate about traditional design and in particular have found enormous inspiration from the Arts & Crafts Movement. The Arts & Crafts style evolved in the late 1800's and is essentially a mix of traditional folk/country styles and even early medieval English architecture. It is also often referred to as "The Surrey Style".

In the South East, and Surrey in particular, there are great number of examples of Arts and Crafts buildings from such great architects as Edwin Lutyens, Phillip Webb, Charles Voysey, M. H Baillie Scott and others. There are also examples of Arts & Crafts builders such as W.G. Tarrant (perhaps best known for creating the St Georges Hill and Wentworth estates) who built a large number of quality houses in the Arts & Crafts style in the Surrey area.

Due to our location we are inextricably linked with the Arts & Crafts style. At first glance this may seem to be somewhat insular until we consider that these vernacular styles were very much a blueprint for other parts of England, and indeed the World. In-fact it could reasonably be argued that the Arts and Crafts movement was actually born in Surrey.
